It is the weekend so these notes will be short and sweet. The good news is that not much happened yesterday with only five games on the board.
I added back pitch velo and usage changes below, it just compares yesterday’s pitch velocities and usages with last season and tells you what significant changes there were. I’ll slowly be adding things below as I find time and get ideas - and then just to remind you, the “last 3 weeks” stuff will come into play in, well, about three weeks.
The AAA season also got under way last night. Here’s a reminder that paid subs can see all minor league stats on the MLB & MiLB Stats Dashboard, just utilize the “level” drop-down, like so:
Jake Bauers is a minor league legend, two more minor bombs last night!
Cristian Javier was a fantasy letdown last night, but fear not - you’ll see some good marks below.
Same old pitch mix with 94% fastball+slider, but both pitches were nasty again with SwStr% exceeding 20% - ridiculous stuff there. The problem with Javier is when he gives up the barrel, which he will do a decent amount of given how conducive his pitches are to fly balls.
It was also good to see Lance Lynn have a really nice outing against the Astros.
Lots of whiffs for him as well.
And everybody’s favorite red head Dustin May kind of did the opposite of Javier. He had a fantastic box score outing (seven innings, didn’t even know that was legal in March!) but didn’t generate many whiffs and struck out just three batters.
He led the way with the four-seamer, which is new as you’ll see below - and it didn’t go super well. The 2.8% SwStr% and 16.7% CSW% are weirdly terrible, so I’d consider him lucky to have done as well as eh did last night.
We’ll see if he brings up the sinker usage a bit more next time, but we’re talking about 84 pitches here so let’s chill out.
Here’s the report and the resource links below the paywall for paid subs. Check out the full list of what paid subscribers get here.
