MLB Daily Notes - April 4th
Not many steal attempts last night and that pushed the attempt rate for the season down to 8.1%. I’m going to be monitoring this table every day early on here to see where things settle in.
There were 53 homers hit yesterday for a really high home run rate (22.4 PA/HR). That is probably mostly due to randomness and the fact that most of the SPs yesterday were back-of-the-rotation guys, but interesting to point out nonetheless.
Drew Rasmussen stole the show dominating the Nationals for six innings.
Springs and Rasmussen have seemingly both come into the 2023 season as new and much better pitchers (and they were both pretty good last year). This start was against a bad Nats lineup, but the numbers are all phenomenal there.
Kutter Crawford gave up five barrels and three homers to the Pirates, but did generate 15 whiffs and got six strikeouts.
Jon Gray pushed out 13 whiffs and 22 chases against the Orioles, so that was an encouraging start.
George Kirby was up there as well with 14 whiffs despite getting hit around by the Angels, which we can forgive given how that Angels lineup is currently assembled.
Reid Detmers had a ton of velocity last night, as you’ll see below, but made it just 4.2 innings and walked three hitters in addition to his seven strikeouts.
My guy Drew refreshed his pitch quality model this morning, so that’s all up to date now in the main MLB dashboard and the Google sheet that paid subs have access to.

The whole report is still available for everybody, but one of these mornings I’m going to be grumpy and I’m going to move the paywall up several slots. Beware!

Note that these compare yesterday to all games from 2022 through the day before yesterday. Because of that, most of the results will be players who didn’t play last year or played very little. I’m going to fix it eventually so it makes more sense.
