MLB Daily Notes - Monday April 18th
It’s week two, and boy I needed week one to be done. I have eight fantasy teams, and here’s where they currently sit in the standings:
Home league with HS friends: 10th of 10
RotoBaller Experts League: 4th of 12
NFBC 50s #1: 9th of 12
NFBC 50s #2: 10th of 12
NFBC 50s #3: 8th of 12
NFBC 50s #4: 10th of 12
NFBC DC: 9th of 15
TGFBI: 9th of 15
So that’s nice. I also had a league-mate in that home league I mentioned read the notes yesterday and then immediately go and pick up Paul Blackburn, who I was planning to pick up right after lock. I was also only able to draft one of my five “My Guys” in that league, as I put those names out for everyone to see, and those players ended up getting drafted well ahead of their ADP in our league. Coincidence? No, I don’t think so!
So that’s what I’ve done to myself. I have sacrificed any edge I had against my friends at the altar of social media clout and financial gain. Will it prove to be worth it? I’ll let you know.
Changes
For paid subs, I’ve added a new sheet that tracks pitch mix changes for 2022 as compared to 2021. It finds all pitches that are either new this year, have significantly added velocity, or significantly added spin. Here’s an example of Andrew Heaney, who stands out big time on this file:
Not the best screenshot, but you can see that’s added a slider this year and raised his velocity on the curveball and his spin rate on the changeup. Spin rates on changeups aren’t very important, but interesting to see nonetheless.
EDIT: I’ve turned this into a Tableau dashboard, where you can just click one button to see all of the new pitches or the pitches with added velo/spin, check out this preview:
Same rule, the dashboard URL will only be given to paid members of the Substack!

Now we hit the paywall. Below the fold here, paid subscribers $5/month will get links to today’s full box score projections (with DraftKings salaries & scores included!), full season-long up-to-date reports, the MLB Tableau Dashboard, and more.
Early on this season I put together a quick five-minute preview video of what this Dashboard is and how you can use it, I’ve already added a few more sweet tabs on to it, so this video is a bit out of date, but here it is below. If you subscribe, you’ll get access to this for the full season.
