MLB Daily Notes: Monday, August 15
Introduction / Explanation For New Readers
From these notes on June 26th:
One other thing before we go: Blake Snell is terrible and I’m dropping him for Hunter Greene today in my home league
Blake Snell since June 26th: 2.12 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 37.6% K%, 9.6% BB%, 0.6 HR/9
I’m just not that good at this. TWENTY-FOUR whiffs for Snell yesterday against the Nats.
15 on the fastball
6 on the slide-boy
3 on the change
I didn’t see the tape but I’m guessing he still had those bags under his eyes - so I’d be looking to trade him. He’s eventually going to suffer from the obvious lack of sleep. Put up the video game controller bud.
Michael Wacha went wild with a 20.2% SwStr% coming off of the IL. He threw a few more cutters than normal but nothing else really changed. The Yankees are kind of a lineup that you can have crazy starts like this against since there’s plenty of swing-and-miss in the lineup, but I mean that was a pretty shocking start.
Drew Rasmussen had a perfecto going into the 9th, and three batters later he lost the perfect game, the no-hitter, the shutout, and the complete-game. His numbers were good (32.2% CSW%, 19.5% SwStr%), but short of stunning - and it came against the Orioles. No-hitters and perfect games are put on a pedestal and they shouldn’t be. The best starts of the year are almost never no-hitters, and tons of times no-hitters aren’t even that good - they’re just really freaking lucky. Let’s stigmatize no-hitters.
Joey Meneses needs added everywhere, he’s hitting .400/.447/.829 in 38 plate appearances. Now, lots of people could do that with some good fortune - but not everybody can go 38 PA’s with a 16.7% Brl% and an 86.7% contact%. Those are incredible marks to put together for any stretch of time - so I’m definitely buying in there.
Minor Leaguer Hitters of the Day
The old three-swipe and a dong day for D.J. Burt! That name sounds like someone that would emcee your cousin’s cheap wedding!
Minor Leaguer Pitchers of the Day
I wonder if someday these minor league teams that allude to oil drilling are going to get canceled by the climate crazies. There are at least a few teams named like this.
Bobby Miller drilled the opponents with nine punchies over 7.1 innings for the Dodgers’ AA. One level above was Dustin May on rehab, striking out 10 batters in five innings and walking one. If he’s available in your league, I’d add him right now - he’s tentatively scheduled to debut for the (Major League) Dodgers this week.
And then our boy BRANDON PFAADT did it again with 10 strikeouts and two walks earning another win and allowing just one run on one hit.
Taking our kids to the beach today - took off work. So you won’t be getting any of my sick tweets today like usual - I hope you make it through.
I did schedule a tweet that tags this Brandon Pfaadt guy so I’m fishing for a sick retweet - and maybe then I can invite him on the podcast to talk about how life is being BRANDON PFAADT.
Here’s the report - enjoy your day!
