MLB Daily Notes: Sunday, July 17
Introduction / Explanations for New Readers
Tableau has been broken since Friday, I’m not sure if it’s an issue with my account or a server problem on their side. Whatever it is - it’s not great, although decently timed here with the All-Star Break. I’ve reached out to their support team for help, so hopefully that leads to something. None of the dashboards have any data from Friday or Saturday right now though - and you’ll have to completely rely on the Google Sheets to see the projections for today.
Some way or how, I’ll have it fixed for next weekend - but hopefully today or tomorrow.
If you want to know if a pitching metric is a good one or not, just check to see if Max Scherzer is at the top of it. The guy is insane. 20.6% SwStr% and 39.2% CSW% last night, the Mets are getting their moneys worth so far - hopefully we get to see that team in the playoffs with Scherzer and deGrom cooking at the same time.
Great start for Alex Cobb, his best work of the year - right after I dropped him in the home league! Shout out to me! The strikeouts and SwStr% are still down on him recently, which still makes him far from a must-roster, but the ground-balls are so plentiful that as long as he’s not walking guys he’ll have plenty of really useful starts.
Austin Riley had three barrels yesterday, and he’s been on a ridiculous tear. I would tell you his recent stats except the dashboard is out of date, and I’m not trying to go to clunky FanGraphs right now on this Sunday morning when I’m trying to rush through things. Yes, that’s how sweet my dashboard is - it has made me say bad things about FanGraphs.
My son just brought me a diaper and said “poop poop”, so I’ve gotta change him real quick. He’s such a stud. Here’s a video of he and I hooping yesterday, but I’ll be honest I posted it just so I can show off my sick J.
I’m willing to go so far as to say that if there was a basketball team of prominent fantasy baseball writers, I would be in the running for starting point guard. Ball is life.
Other big news: I’m giving away a bidet by football season. Right before the NFL season, one paid sub will win a bidet toilet attachment courtesy of ME.
I’m doing this for three reasons
It’s really funny
I might gain a few more paid subs from it
Bidets are life-changing and everybody should have one
So if you’re a fantasy football person and you’ve been considering becoming a paid member here, there’s another reason to take the plunge - I promise you won’t be flushing your money away.
I suppose we’ll throw out one more notes post tomorrow since there are games today, but you won’t hear from me Tuesday through Thursday. I’m sure I’ll be itching to get back into DFS on Friday, so you’ll get a nice slate preview post from me then. Let’s get to the notes, I hope everybody enjoys their Sundays, God Bless!
