MLB Daily Notes: Tuesday, May 24
One more day in the actual office for me here in Pittsburgh. Haven’t worked this way since March 2020 - so it’s been fun to relive the memories of yesteryear.
Went to the Rockies/Pirates game yesterday and saw that patheticness. There were about 19 people at the game. Brubaker broke my heart on the 4.5 strikeouts prop I recommended to you all, but we hit on Wheeler so I didn’t crush you too bad yesterday.
First glance at the prop sheet I don’t see anything sticking out so I’m not making any recommendations today.
Aaron Judge continued his ridiculous season with two more dingers. He now has a 28% barrel rate with a 26% K% and a crazy 77% hard-hit rate. He’s on another level this year, really highlighting the importance of having one of these true prodigious power guys on your fantasy team. Most of the rest of the league is struggling to homer, but Judge is having no trouble whatsoever with 17 dingers in 171 plate appearances. “On pace” for nearly 60 homers right now.
One other hitter standing out that is probably unrostered in your league is AJ Pollock. He missed a couple of weeks in April and the surface numbers aren’t that great, but in May he’s got a really high 14% barrel rate with a really low 18% K%. He’s hitting .250/.288/.412 over that time with two dingers. I’d be looking to add if you need an outfielder.
On the pitching side of things, Zack Wheeler and Gerrit Cole were the top dogs yesterday, they are both back to being solidified aces that you can start with confidence. Jordan Lyles impressed a bit yesterday with a 6.2 inning, eight strikeout start. Two walks and Aaron Judge cost him three earned runs, but really the guy has been pretty solid this year and could potentially be rostered in deep leagues.
Alex Cobb really got screwed last night by some infield hits and his defense. He box score line was awful but he struck out seven hitters without a walk, and gave up just one barrel while turning in 11 ground-balls. If Darin Ruf makes a catch he should make last night, Cobb probably only gives up one or two runs and it’s a great start for him. Buy low or hold on to that man.
Nice Tuesday slate of games, check out the projections and all of the dashboards - lots of great DFS tools here in the premium section after the notes, subscribe today!
