I had a nice splash last night. I went 100% Wheeler + Sale and took down 12th in the big tournament for a 40:1 return. Overall, it was a big positive, but no huge cash out yet! Let’s try it again this afternoon.

Let’s rip through this early DFS slate, which starts in less than an hour.

Early Slate

Pitchers

  • Sonny Gray ($8,200) vs. Pirates: Nobody is projecting super well on this early slate, but Gray is the top guy against the Pirates. The strikeout numbers are there, and this Pirates lineup is very beatable.

  • Ben Brown ($7,500) vs. Giants: The model is pretty strong on Brown. We’re giving him 17.2 points against the Giants for $7,500 - and that makes him the top value. I’ll never fully trust the guy, but I think he’s going to make some of my lineups on this slate.

  • Framber Valdez ($8,500) vs. Brewers: The matchups model does not like how the Brewers stack up against the left-handed Valdez. The issue is that Valdez has not been very good this year. But that, I think, could lower the ownership (projected 22% on a short slate, that’s decently low). So I’m into it. Let’s bet on Valdez figuring it out.

  • Bryan Woo ($9,000) vs. Athletics: We like Woo. However, $9,000 for a guy with an expected lower K% isn’t something I want to go 100% on.

  • Mitch Keller ($6,500) vs. Cardinals: The projection isn’t high for him. We do not expect many strikeouts from Keller in this spot. But the price seems a bit too cheap for him on this slate. The Cardinals aren’t an imposing lineup power-wise, so I think Keller has a pretty decent chance of getting 15 or so points here.

  • Quinn Priester ($6,300) vs. Astros: Priester is awful against lefties and pretty decent against righties. The Astros lineup is 100% right-handed today. It’s a sneaky spot for Priester.
