Starts & Sits Advice :: September 25-26
Looking at today's and tomorrow's SP projections to help you make daily lineup and streamer decisions.
Here’s a list of the teams that are playing very important games this week:
National League
Dodgers & Padres: Both have clinched the playoffs, but the Dodgers division lead is down to two games, and they are playing each other right now.
Mets, Diamondbacks, Braves: Just one game separates them, and there are two Wild Card spots open for them.
The Phillies have won their division, but they are tied with the Dodgers for that #1 seed. I’m not sure how motivating that is, but it would give you home field advantage in the NLCS. The Brewers could, in theory, still move up to the #1 or #2 seed, but they’re 2.5 games behind LA and Philly, so most likely they’re in the #3 seed.
American League
Yankees: They have a tiny bit more work to do to clinch the division, but effectively, they have won it. They are tussling with the Guardians for the #1 seed, so there’s still some motivation there.
Guardians: They’ve clinched the division, but they could take that top seed.
Tigers & Royals: They’re currently holding the final two Wild Card spots, and they are two games up on the Twins and 2.5 up on the Mariners. Both teams should be considered highly motivated.
Twins: They are two games back of two different teams. If they can pass up just one of them, they’re in the playoffs. High motivation.
Mariners: Same as the Twins, but they’re an extra half game back.
Red Sox: They’re 3.5 back, which is a huge gap with just four or five games left, but they’re not eliminated.
The Orioles are locked into the top Wild Card spot and the Astros are locked into the #3 seed as the division winner, so there’s not much reason for either team to push it.
So we can keep that all in mind as we assign these grades.
