I’m going round by round picking out the player with the most fantasy upside. I’ll be using a 12-team league as the framework. There’s nothing else to say, here we go!
Round 1: OF Fernando Tatis Jr.
2021 was three years, multiple injuries, and a suspension ago for Tatis. But I still remember that .611 SLG, 42 homers, and 25 steals in just 550 PAs.
Round 2: 3B Jazz Chisholm Jr.
We saw some of the ceiling Jazz has always had last season. He finally stayed healthy and went for a 24-homer, 40-steal season. He slashed .273/.325/.500 with 11 homers and 18 steals in 46 (regular season) games after putting on the pinstripes.
Round 3: OF Ronald Acuna Jr.
Just take all of the guys with junior in their name, I guess that’s the lesson.
I don’t think I need to go over it. You saw what Acuna was capable of in that 2023 season. Let’s just imagine that he returns to action in early May at 80% of that production pace. He’d be right there with Witt Jr. and Ohtani, and you can get him as late as round five this year.
Round 4: SP Jacob deGrom
So yeah, this post isn’t very illuminating so far, but we’ll get there!
Round 5: SP Yoshinobu Yamamoto
I started with four hitters and then deGrom. Even if you’re playing the lottery here, you’d want to get back into the pitcher pool pretty quickly. Yamamoto is one of my favorite SPs to draft this year. He’s surprisingly cheap. I think there’s a true Cy Young upside with the guy, and I’m not worrying too much about the rumblings of a six-man rotation.
Round 6: 2B Ozzie Albies
We need infield help, so I’m grabbing Albies as my second baseman. The profile doesn’t scream upside with his lack of raw power and lower steals total. Going back to 2021, there have only been 26 seasons where a player went for 30+ homers, 90+ runs, 90+ RBI, and 10+ steals. Albies is on that list twice!
If the Braves can stay healthy this year, Albies could go right back to being one of the best stat accumulators in the league.
