Week 13 Waiver Wire Targets
Quick hits looking at potential players to target on the week eleven waiver wire.
I missed last week, but I’m right back on the saddle on this fine Friday. Let’s get to it.
Pitchers
Duh
Taj Bradley (37% Owned)
I think Bradley is the only name I can put here this week. All of the other obviously good pitchers are above the ownership threshhold, so there will be a bunch of names in the next section.
Probably
Hunter Brown (55% Owned): We still can’t quite shake that awful start to the year and his home run problem, but he has been so much better lately. The velo has been up and he’s ripped off four consecutive quality starts with a 26:8 K:BB in that span. He gets the White Sox next week as well.
Cade Povich (7% Owned): One bad start and one good one so far, the fastball is a question mark but the curveball has been hugely hyped up by people in the know and so far it’s been great in 40 offerings against Major League hitters (20% SwStr%, 55% Strike%).
Christian Scott (18% Owned): I was getting less and less excited about Scott as his first MLB stint went on, but I would still say he deserves to be owned in most leagues while he’s in the Mets’ rotation. He hasn’t yet been recalled yet, but you would have to think it’s coming soon, if not as soon as early next week.
Tylor Megill (26% Owned): He might be a better add from the Mets rotation right now as he’s posted a sick 28.8% K% in his 25.2 innings so far. The command has been spotty (9.9% BB%) and that has cut a few outings short (he’s gotten through six innings just once in five tries), but most of the signs are positive and he has a rotation spot locked in right now.
Ben Brown (24% Owned): There have been two bad starts since that big start against the Dodgers where he struck out ten over seven scoreless innings, but the numbers are still pretty enticing for the year with his 28.8% K% and 8.6% BB%. He might not have the fastball to have success in a traditional starter’s role, but I’m not writing him off yet.
Max Meyer (31% Owned): There was plenty of speculation that he would start for the Marlins this weekend. At the time of this writing, it’s still unclear. They have been treating him with kid gloves in the minors, throwing him out there just once a week and limiting to less than 70 pitches. But that, in theory, is to preserve him and let him loose here in the second half of the season. He already has a 20+ whiff game in the Majors, so the upside is tantalizing. But there are a lot of question marks here.
