Introduction & Explanation

This is my third year doing this extremely long post series, and it’s one of my favorite things to do every year.

A few years ago I had the idea to do my own player rankings, but I wanted to do it in a smarter and more unique way. Most people, when doing player rankings, use some sort of default rankings - whether it be someone else’s rankings, or ADP, or whatever it may be. And no matter what you do after that, you’re susceptible to the anchoring bias. That original ranking makes a huge difference on your final ranking just because it feels wrong to move a player too far up or down from where they started.

So what I do now is go player-by-player and build the rankings one player at a time. The first hitter I review will be my #1 hitter, and then the second hitter I review will either go above or below him, and so on and so forth.

When it’s all said and done, I will have reviewed a few hundred hitters and have ranked them all. There will likely be wild disparities in my rankings and others because of this, and those will be opportunities to review why and maybe make some adjustments - because I likely will miss some things.

The series starts in early December and will run through February, in all likelihood. There will be some edits and changes a long the way as players change teams and get hurt and everything else that happens in the offseason.

Every post will have a player or two for everybody to read, but the bulk of this, and the rankings will be behind the paywall for paid subscribers only.

Unlike previous years, the rankings won’t be available until near the end of the series. I don’t want to put out rankings that are missing several teams, and they will be changing a lot throughout the early months here - so I find it better to just wait until February or so to release them - and hopefully I’ll have every player ranked by then.

So follow along with the links above and become a paid sub to get the full experience. Thanks for being here - hope you enjoy the series!
